The DMC is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Academic Affairs will report directly to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
The Assistant Vice President, Academic Affairs will assist the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) with Graduate Medical Education Programs and have responsibility for implementing and improving DMC educational programs and developing/supporting residency program directors. He/She is also responsible for the implementation of Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), needs to be familiar with American Osteopathic Association (AOA) core competencies and will work on curriculum development and evaluation, mentoring of the Graduation Medical Education (GME) faculty and clerkship directors and collaborate in conducting original educational research.
Additionally, the Assistant Vice President, Academic Affairs will work with Training Program Directors to interpret, implement and ensure compliance with the ACGME and Graduation Medical Education Committee policies. He/she will be responsible for identifying common curricular issues and creating curricula and tools for dissemination across the various training programs which includes: on-line curricula, faculty development programs and developing GME Grand Rounds, as well as, developing or assisting others in creating tools to obtain resident evaluation of faculty and educational experiences. He/she will develop and implement resident/fellow training programs to improve teaching skills and must possess an in-depth understanding and technical knowledge of the administrative, operational, and medical/clinical aspects of healthcare functions and facilities including human, legal, technological, fiscal and customer aspects of patient care in an academic medical center.
The Assistant Vice President will:
· Develop and/or integrate clinical skills simulation and standardized patient interactions into GME training programs;
· Develop methods for GME institutional oversight of program educational outcomes;
· Lead faculty development initiatives that improve individual faculty members’ teaching skills and understanding of the ACGME core competencies (e.g., Stanford Faculty Development Workshops);
· Conduct needs assessments, as required;
· Facilitate training of Program Directors, Associate Program Directors, key Clinical Faculty and program coordinators in the ACGME requirements;
· Conducts program curricula evaluation;
· Directs research and evaluation initiatives to assess the effectiveness of GME programs and represents the DIO or Vice President of Academic Affairs at various subcommittees of the GMEC;
· Attend core monthly meetings aligned with GME activities;
· Monitor activities for and ensure compliance with laws, government regulations, the Joint Commission requirements and the DMC and Tenet policies;
· Implement external and internal audit recommendations;

Required Candidate Qualifications:
· Advanced degree is required and a PhD in Medical Education is preferred;
· 5 plus years of years of progressively responsible experience in administrative duties in graduate medical education programs in a large academic health care organization;
· Experience with ACGME application, self-study, annual update and site visit preparation.
Preferred Professional Experience includes:
· Curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation;
· Participation in a Stanford Faculty Development Center Workshop or Program;
· Peer reviewed manuscript publications;
· Project management skills including the ability to define program, project, or process objectives, identify stakeholders and their interests, plan steps, coordinate and allocate human, technological and fiscal resources to accomplish goals and objectives in a resourceful yet timely manner.
Personal Qualifications include:
· Analytical ability to conceptualize well in unstructured, dynamic and/or multi-disciplinary environments requiring analysis, foresight, intuition and mature judgment;
· Thorough knowledge of fundamental doctrines, theories, principles and practices of several disciplines, to find solutions to unusual or unprecedented problems;
· Solid Communication and interpersonal skills to persuade and negotiate on situations which are controversial and/or sensitive and result in authoritative decisions and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others and to forge alliances and garner support;
· A demonstrated willingness to pursue leadership roles with increasing levels of accountability, comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching, teaching and counseling skills.
