Maine Medical Center, a 637 bed tertiary care medical center in Portland, seeks a dynamic, distinguished leader to serve as its next Chief Academic Officer (CAO). Maine Medical Center (MMC) is the flagship hospital for MaineHealth, a 12 hospital system spanning broad geography from Conway, New Hampshire to the central Maine coast. The CAO has oversight for all academic activities involving research and education, and participates in all strategic decisions and policy as a senior officer of MMC. As Academic Dean, the CAO also maintains a collaborative relationship with and is accountable to the dean at Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM). The domain of academic affairs includes all of medical education, including the Maine Track medical school partnership with the Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM), MMC's multiple ACGME-accredited residencies and fellowships, the continuing professional development (CPD) programs and the research enterprise - basic and translational research at Maine Medical Center Research Institute (MMCRI), and clinical research at MMC. The successful candidate will be an M.D., M.D./Ph.D. or D.O. or equivalent terminal degree with significant experience in academic medicine and will have a demonstrated track record of championing academic excellence, leading change and fostering engagement in the education and research missions of an organization. A commitment to interprofessional education is also essential.
