The GME Financial Analyst works as part of the team in the Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME), Emory School of Medicine (SOM), which oversees the administration of 1300+ trainees in the 110+ Emory medical residency/fellowship training programs. With minimal supervision, this position will be responsible for the financing aspect of GME operations which includes billing, invoicing, reconciliation, budgeting, and financial analysis/reporting related to residents’ payroll and hospital billing. The position requires proven financial analyst and project management skills, a strong focus on excellent customer service, process improvement, and exceptional analytical and organizational skills to ensure GME financial integrity.

Duties include but are not limited to:
• Analyzes current and historical GME finance data and other information to make financial projections and prepares expense projections and operational forecasts; assists GME and SOM management in short- and long-range financial planning.
• Analyzes financial statements and prepares financial reports to represent current and projected GME financial status to leadership, training hospital finance departments, and other relevant parties.
• Performs routine and complex accounting activities requiring knowledge of multiple data management systems, independent judgment of complex GME issues, and ability to respond accordingly in a timely manner. Coordinates action necessary to correct account balances and maintain proper accounting controls and procedures.
• May implement and monitor budget and related financial modeling. Assists in the annual GME budget planning process, develops multi-year models and manages financial projections.
• Assists in preparing, developing and monitoring budgets. Assists in projecting future GME finance trends and prepares long-range operational forecasts and cash flow analysis.
• Works closely with SOM Business and Finance Office and assists in year-end audits and in ensuring the accuracy of GME finance data.
• Works closely with other members of the GME team, multiple training hospital administration and finance offices, University Bursar, Accounts Payable, Emory HR/Payroll Offices, and GME training programs/departments/division finance personnel across campus to ensure accuracy of GME billing/payments and to reconcile billing discrepancies. Preferred qualifications:
• Five years of accounting, financial, or business management experience in an academic institution.
• Knowledgeable about Medicare reimbursement guidelines as it pertains to residency/fellowship training.
• Proven financial analyst and project management, as well as demonstrated communication skills, including the ability to clearly and effectively communicate information is required. Quick to learn, understand and interpret new rules and regulations
• Proven ability to work independently developing work plans on assigned projects, monitoring progress and tracking to completion.
• Excellent organizational skills and initiative; must be detail-oriented and able to meet deadlines while processing large volumes of data with high rate of accuracy. Must be able to multi-task in a busy and fast-paced office environment, prioritize effectively, and collaborate well with a culturally diverse team.
• Ability to work with medical professionals and deal with ambiguity; demonstrates high levels of professionalism interacting with faculty, staff and residents/fellows.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality standards;
• Extensive computer skills; must be very familiar with Microsoft Office software (Excel in particular) and a quick learner of other database software applications.
• Excellent verbal & written communication skills; ability to draft professional reports and summaries.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision in a diverse team environment.
• Supervision experience preferred.
