Internal Medicine Program Director
First of its kind
The first internal medicine residency program in Southwest Washington will soon launch at Legacy Health’s newest hospital, Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. The Legacy Salmon Creek Internal Medicine Residency is expected to launch by the summer of 2021. We are seeking a skilled, outpatient-focused internal medicine
program director to shape this innovative program.
In close collaboration with the Vancouver Clinic, internal medicine residents will be focused on both institutions’ strong outpatient programs. The Vancouver Clinic is the largest multi-specialty clinic in the Pacific Northwest. Opened in 2005, Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center stands as Southwest Washington's most modern hospital, with a range of innovations to improve the health and the life of the community.
Working together, our vision is to create an environment where we can meet the educational needs of future internists, allowing them to become masters of clinical decision-making, inter-professional team collaboration and management of population health.
As this is a new program, we have great flexibility in thoughtfully developing educational and clinical goals. We are looking for a program director with context awareness, clinical credibility and a passion for outpatient medicine.
Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Cascade Mountains, on the north bank of the Columbia River, Vancouver, Wash., offers both cultural diversity and natural beauty. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy easy access to skiing, camping, hiking, kayaking, surfing and all the many hobbies the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Just minutes from Portland, Ore., those seeking professional sports teams, theater, arts and music events can also have plenty to choose from.
Our target start date for our first residency class is June/July 2021.
Vancouver, Wash., offers bike trails, the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, the Pearson Air Museum, the Columbia Springs Environmental Education Center, the Pomeroy Living History Center, the Water Resource Education Center as well as a public library with one of the largest discovery zones in the country. Many of our staff at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center hold academic posts at local and regional medical schools. You’ll work with highly regarded colleagues at Legacy Salmon Creek. While graduate medical education is new to the Salmon Creek facility, Legacy’s oldest hospitals, Legacy Good Samaritan and Legacy Emanuel medical centers, have a long history (more than 100 years) of sponsoring graduate medical education. The program director will be supported by an experienced designated institutional officer and colleagues in our existing medical education programs.
Legacy Health includes Legacy Research Institute (LRI), one of the premier biomedical research institutes in Oregon and one of the largest non-academic, hospital-based research programs in the county. The innovative research conducted at the institute is supported by generous donations, as well as by federal and foundation grants. Legacy Institute for Surgical Education and Innovation (LISEI) has recently partnered with Legacy GME for research in simulation around communication issues for our internal medicine residency.
