The Designated Institutional Official (DIO) is responsible for maintaining the educational quality, financial viability, administrative/academic structure, accreditation standards and other regulatory requirements for graduate medical education (GME).

The position functions as a liaison between the ACGME and the residents/fellows, teaching faculty, GME Office, departments/caregivers internal to the hospital, and institutions serving as outside teaching sites for residents and fellows. The DIO should also be knowledgeable about health care compliance and regulatory requirements, and demonstrate abilities in areas of financial analysis, strategic planning, decision making, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.

Minimum Requirements:
1. MD or DO. Board certified and clinically active.

2. Minimum of five (5) years experience in Graduate Medical Education and Clinical Research.

3. Participation in all phases of education /research accreditation (LCME, ACGME, ACCME, IRB).

4. Current or Previous academic appointment at Associate Professor Level in a College of Medicine.

5. Completed ACGME Residency training with current ABMS Board Certification.

6. Demonstrated leadership experience in catalyzing Academic Medical Center strategic and operational readiness for healthcare environmental change.

7. Experience in developing new residency and fellowship programs in hybrid (private and employed physicians) medical staffs.

8. Knowledge of the ACGME institutional responsibilities such as the Annual Institutional Review (AIR), CLER activities, institutional self-studies, and residency program evaluation and data management collection.

Preferred Requirements:
1. Served as Director of Graduate Medical Education or ACGME DIO or Residency Program Training Director.

2. Active in National Medical Education Professional Development Groups (AAMC, GRA, AHME, other specialty Program Director Groups).

3. Faculty Development and Quality Improvement/Patient Safety leadership responsibilities.

4. Must be able to work collaboratively with executive/physician leadership, program coordinators, hospital personnel, and institutions of higher learning to develop/maintain collegial relationships and teamwork.

5. Experience with electronic residency management systems such as New Innovations is preferred.
