Job Details: The Riverside Regional Medical Center Department of Medical Education is currently recruiting an Emergency Medicine Residency Program Director to lead our anticipated Emergency Medicine Residency Program. The Riverside Emergency Medicine Residency Program Director is responsible for providing an educational experience enabling resident physicians to obtain the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to practice independently, to pursue sub-specialty training, or to become innovative leaders in emergency medicine administration, education, and research. The Program Director ensures delivery of education and skill-building opportunities in the program for residents to achieve certification by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. The Program Director develops, conducts, and oversees the residency program in accordance with requirements of Riverside’s Graduate Medical Education Committee and the ACGME Emergency Medicine Residency Review Committee. They will also be responsible for the faculty, facilities, support services, equipment, and educational resources to achieve the goals and objectives of the program and to maintain program accreditation. The Program Director reports directly to the Riverside Designated Institutional Official. The successful candidate will be board certified in emergency medicine and eligible for licensure in Virginia. The applicant should have academic credentials demonstrated excellence in scholarship, teaching and mentoring, and clinical care.

Education: Board certification in emergency medicine.

Experience: At least 3 years’ experience as a core faculty member in an ACGME-accredited emergency medicine residency program and demonstrated experience in a graduate medical education leadership role.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Previous leadership/administrative experience, strong administrative and team-building skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills,

scholarship in medical education. Willingness to combine administrative and teaching responsibilities. Familiarity with national (e.g. ACGME, NRMP) and local requirements (Riverside and Riverside GME Committee).

Certificate/License/Registration: Board certification in emergency medicine (ABEM or AOBEM) and eligible for licensure in the state of Virginia. All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.

Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will have:

Requisite specialty expertise and documented educational and administrative experience acceptable to the Review Committee;
Evidence of ongoing involvement in scholarly activity, including peer-reviewed publications
Significant previous experience in GME leadership positions
Significant faculty development or formal training in medical education
Leadership or management training
Experience in both safety-net and community-based settings
