East Alabama Health (EAH) located in the beautiful Auburn – Opelika area of Alabama is searching for an experienced Program Director, Internal Medicine who will elevate the organizations Internal Medicine Residency Program with an unyielding commitment to graduate medical education.
EAH's organization includes East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) located in
Opelika, Alabama, and EAMC-Lanier Rural Emergency Hospital in Valley, Alabama. Between the two hospitals and their collective service lines, there are about 3,800 employees and 380 physicians in the organization, making EAH Lee County’s second largest employer.
EAMC is the main hospital campus of EAH and serves an 11-county area in east Alabama. EAMC is licensed for 314 general, acute care beds, and features a surgical center, an emergency department with designation as a Level III Trauma Center, a Level III NICU, a 10-bed cardiovascular intensive care unit, a 20-bed intensive care unit, and various outpatient health services.
EAMC is home to their Internal Medicine Residency Program and welcomed their inaugural residency class in 2021 and is currently accredited for thirty (30) residents with plans for expansion. EAMC has more than 16,000 inpatient admissions annually and their Emergency Department sees more than 80,000 patients each year between EAMC, EAMC-Lanier, and their new freestanding ER near the Auburn University campus. They've assembled an incredible core faculty who are devoted to the education and training of their residents. EAH also enjoys a partnership with The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM)'s - Auburn Campus that includes clinical rotations, research and community health. The Internal Medicine Residency Program Director reports into the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) and will have general oversight and executive managerial responsibility for the ACGME and AOA dually accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program including oversight of the members of the Residency Program's administrative support team. This unique and highly visible position will work in concert with the DIO as well as the medical staff to foster an environment that values and supports educational programs and work to build and strengthen the Internal Medicine Residency program for EAH.
The preferred candidate must be board certified in Internal Medicine and have a minimum of three years faculty teaching experience with Internal Medicine Residency required. Candidates with recent scholarly activity are highly encouraged to apply. The Program Director will be an experienced medical educator within Internal Medicine with a track record of successfully managing educational programs for Internal Medicine residents.
