The School of Medicine at Texas A&M University seeks to fill a full-time position as Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs. This is an 11 month appointment with a start date in the Spring of 2024. Applicants will be considered for the rank of Clinical (Non-Tenure), Tenure-Track or Tenured Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, depending on qualifications. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Medicine, the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs will provide leadership for all clinical functions related to the School, working collaboratively with the central administration and faculty members to support and advance the strategic goals of the University and School. Candidate will be expected to be involved with one or two areas in either research, education, and/or service missions of the university where they will be expected to make a substantial contribution.

Responsibilities for the position as Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs will include:

o Works closely with the Dean to assure fiscal performance and financial integrity of the School’s internal clinical enterprises.

o Acts as the School of Medicine collaborative contact for all clinical affiliates

o Works closely with the Associate Vice President for Compliance and Risk Management, the Associate Vice President for Clinical Initiatives & Real Estate, and the Executive Director for Clinical Strategies and Initiatives at the TAMU Health Science Center (HSC) to assure clinical compliance for the SOM clinical enterprises.

o Assists the Dean with the School of Medicine clinical strategic growth plan.

o Leads the School of Medicine Clinical Care Practice Plan (CCPP) committee and executive committee.

o Generates initiatives and programs around clinical integration, value-based purchasing, quality measures, and evidence-based medicine as it relates to the School’s clinical enterprises.

o Assists our Medicine Office of Faculty Affairs and the Department Head for Medical Education around clinical affiliate faculty appointments.

o Collaborates with Academic Affairs to ensure UME and GME integration with the clinical enterprise.

o Actively maintains and develops clinical affiliate relationships in concert with the Dean.

o Assists the School of Medicine Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs with the relationships with our academic affiliates.

o Work with our School of Medicine Marketing and Communications office to enhance and increase the visibility of our clinical enterprise.

o Is accountable for developing strategies to enhance, strengthen, and retain partnered aligned healthcare systems and insurers.

o Works collaboratively with the other TAMU and HSC colleges and schools to strategically grow the clinical mission.

o Evaluates external clinical affiliate opportunities and potential strategic clinical physician hires for long-term feasibility and sustainability.

o Assists the Dean in efforts to develop a clinical affiliate integrated teaching hospital.

o Participates in formal and informal clinical faculty recruitment

o Provides administrative leadership in establishing clinical standards and protocols including financial and quality metrics

o Assists with implementing information technology initiatives across the network and developing and implementing policies and procedures applicable to the clinical faculty.

o Ensures a high standard for clinical operations and customer service to enhance and elevate the School of Medicine clinical brand.

Required Qualifications:

M.D., D.O. or other equivalent professional degree

At least seven years of experience in increasingly responsible management positions in medical education and/or healthcare organizations (either hospitals, medical groups, or both).

Demonstrated prior success in developing a clinical provider network, with either a hospital or medical group through a matrixed leadership approach.

Exhibits the hallmarks of effective leadership.

Outstanding communication and relationship building skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in business administration, health administration, or related field, or business experience in hospital or physician practice finance, operations, and management.

Faculty practice plan experience desirable.

Experience in developing and setting quality and financial goals for clinical operations.
