The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School seeks an innovative and accomplished leader to serve as its next Vice Dean for Education. There is also the opportunity for the Vice Dean to serve as
Chair for the Department of Medical Education. This is an unparalleled opportunity to drive educational innovation and entrepreneurship in a school at the cutting edge of the transformation of medicine. The Vice Dean oversees all aspects of medical education spanning undergraduate, graduate and continuing medical education for the school, as well as student affairs.

It is one of seven medical schools in the UT System and, when established, it was the first medical school in nearly five decades to be built on the campus of a member of the elite Association of American Universities, an organization of leading public and private research universities. An extraordinary commitment of resources, both public and private, has already been made to enable the development and success of the Dell Medical School.
The medical school is embedded in an interdisciplinary culture of scholarship and discovery that aims to further expand its translational research programs by leveraging the deep and varied strengths of The University of Texas. Dell Med’s Leading EDGE curriculum is a nationally recognized model of innovation in medical education, leveraging case-based and applied learning to emphasize value-based care and health systems science so graduates are prepared as physician leaders to transform health and health care.
A key aspect of Dell Medical School’s mission includes a focus on improving health and health care for all, but particularly for those most in need. The school is partnering closely with the community and regional healthcare providers and payers to provide new models for health promotion, healthcare delivery and clinical care for the community’s safety-net population. Fully accredited by the LCME, Dell Medical School graduated its first class in 2020. The school matriculates 50 students per year and sponsors 17 residency and 31 fellowship programs.
The incoming Vice Dean will lead efforts to build upon a groundbreaking and agile curriculum well positioned to respond to the dynamic changes within the healthcare environment, propel graduate and continuing medical programs of excellence, and enhance educational research. The new Vice Dean will also play a significant role leading the continued expansion of GME residency and fellowship programs. Currently there are 40 ACGME-accredited and 7 non-ACGME accredited programs, with an additional 12 ACGME programs in their initial accreditation status.
The Vice Dean reports directly to the newly appointed Dean, Claudia Lucchinetti, M.D. and serves as part of the executive leadership team as the head of the education pillar for the medical school.
