Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) Health System seeks an accomplished, innovative physician leader to serve as its Chief Academic Officer (CAO) for a growing academic enterprise and structure. The CAO will focus on enhancing the current academic programs, development of new academic programs and departments, strengthening education and research partnerships
and maximizing the impact of the academic, education and research programs across the CAMC Health System.
The CAO position is a newly created position recognized as essential to CAMC’s future strategic development and plans that will enhance an existing strong academic foundation and culture that is characterized by long-standing academic partnerships, excellent program outcomes and highly committed academic and clinical faculty. The CAO will work with other CAMC leaders and affiliate partners to develop and implement plans for two new Institutes as part of the restructuring and growth of academic medicine at CAMC: Institute for Academic Medicine and the Institute for Innovation and Research.

The role of the CAO will be a recognized champion for academics, education and research. This leader will be the principal leader with oversight for the infrastructure and systems that support the academic mission including academic departments, health sciences health accredited programs, continuing medical education, and research units and departments. He/She will be a principal liaison and point person for strategic academic relationships, strategic academic development, and representative of CAMC academic programs to state and national peer groups/organizations, including the AAMC and the ACGME. The CAO will serve in a high level administrative oversight blending academic functions and academic clinical practice oversight.
