The Foster School of Medicine (FSOM) at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) seeks a dynamic leader to serve as its Department Chair of Family and Community Medicine. Reporting directly to the Dean, the Chair will serve as the academic and clinical leader to implement and enhance scholarship, education, patient care, and academically-related public service.

TTUHSC El Paso is experiencing vibrant growth. TTUHSC El Paso consists of the Foster School of Medicine, the Hunt School of Nursing, the Francis Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and the new Hunt School of Dental Medicine. For over 50 years, the Department of Family and Community Medicine has had a presence in El Paso with a commitment to training highly qualified and compassionate physicians. Five years ago, the department established a second clinical site in northwest El Paso, and now has two separately accredited Family Medicine residency programs (24 and 18 residency slots each) with dedicated faculty, and a sports medicine fellowship program (two fellows per year).

The department provides clinical care through Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso, the University’s medical practice group, in two ambulatory clinics. Inpatient services are provided at the university’s hospital partners. The University Medical Center (UMC) of El Paso, TTUHSC El Paso’s primary teaching hospital, serves as the only Level I trauma center in a 300-mile radius and has a level IV maternal care designation. The Hospitals of Providence – Transmountain Campus is a 106-bed full-service hospital in northwest El Paso, adjacent to the University’s newest medical office. Faculty also maintain a presence at the El Paso Children’s Hospital. The department has a research program in primary care and population health research, with a portfolio of over $20 million in grant funding, including recent awards for cancer prevention and control from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT).

Qualifications: (See job requisition for full position description and requirements)
• MD or DO degree
• Texas Medical License, or eligibility for Texas Medical Licensure
• Current board certification in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine
• Qualifications for faculty appointment at the rank of associate professor or higher
